Downloading Opus
The latest release of Opus is 2.30. The release
notes can be found here and tarballs and ZIP files of public releases can be found here. Generally speaking, unless we've just made a new release, you're better off picking the snapshot tarball or ZIP file as that will include the latest bug fixes.
Already An Opus User?
If you're already running Opus you should read the release notes
in the publisher's manual before rolling it out on to your live system as it
does make some changes to your database the first time it's used (adding extra columns, modifying the contents of existing columns, and modifying config.inc).
New To Opus?
If you're starting from scratch then basically you need to unpack the
tarball into some suitable place in your server tree and then check that the
directory ./php/cfg is writable by your web browser, which it probably won't be when you unpack it, but a quick chmod o+w ./php/cfg will fix that.
Then point your browser at ./php/bin and follow your nose. It should set
you up a basic system with a home page, a news section with a single news
article and a couple of other articles.
You could even RTFM before you do any of this (hyperlink to the
documentation is on the same page) as we have been trying to keep the
documentation up to date and it does have some good words to say about the
install, but if you're like us you'll probably try it first and only RTFM
later!
Giving Us Feedback
We have included the ability to register your Opus system with us.
Please use it so we can get some feedback as to what people are using Opus
for.
