After one of our sites was hit by a 'bot last night trying to use the author login page to send spam (and failing) we offer the following patch which you might like to apply before you suffer the same problem.

NB: it can only be applied to Opus 2.26. If you're still on an earlier version it wouldn't be hard to patch the code into your version if you know what you're doing but it's probably easier to live without it unless you start getting login failure emails from Opus (which is what will tell you you're under attack).
